Life Is A Journey
Life is a journey. In this week’s double Torah portion which concludes the Book of Bamidbar and takes place in the 40th year of the Jewish people’s “wandering” in the desert, we’re going to hear an accounting from Moshe of the 42 different encampments that the Jewish people had during that time. Interestingly, this is one of my “favorite” sections of the Torah even though to some it might sound like a very tedious list of different places.
The Aftermath
Moshe did not merit to enter into the Land of Israel due to his error in striking the stone instead of learning Torah by it which would have created a stream of water flowing from within it. Ahron also was prohibited from entering on account of the same incident. However, Ahron did have the pleasure of witnessing the transmission to the next generation of his honorable position as the High Priest.
Seeing Is Believing
It had been a long journey, 40 years in the desert. They were protected by the clouds that hovered over them and fed the manna which had the taste of anything they wanted and they drank to their hearts’ desire from the traveling well. Their clothing did not wear out and their bodies maintained a high level of hygiene. What more could anyone want?
The Deli
Izzy owned a small deli in Brooklyn. One day, a tax inspector knocked on his door and questioned him about his recent tax return. Izzy had reported a net profit of $300.000 for the year and he wanted to know all about it.

Sharing our Stories Through Food: Tomato & Jalapeño Dip
When I was first married and went with my husband to his brother and sister in law for Shabbos, she made this delicious tomato dip to put on the challah, potato kugel and basically everything. My husband asked me to please get the recipe and since then we have been eating tomato dip almost every Shabbos!
The Ultimate Sacrifice
When we observe the actions of people of eminent stature and witness their massive errors, it is difficult to perceive how they were so mistaken. Yet, it is incumbent upon us, the later generations to gear up and attempt to clarify that which is seemingly beyond our scope. Korach was one of the greats of his generation.
First Words
Miriam and Moishe were in despair. Their 3 year old son David still had not learned how to talk. Not a word had escaped through those now 3-year-old lips.
One Friday night at Shabbos dinner, David took a taste of his soup, and to their utter surprise and amazement, said: “You call this matzah ball soup? It tastes like tasteless mush!”
Parshas Korach with Samantha Clague
As we approach shabbos and the reading of Parshas Korah, I often wonder why this story is told. It seems like this is another story of rebellion and/or another story of complaint. It feels like this story is a bit repetitive.
However, the story of Korach teaches us not just about the consequences of action, but about our patient, loving father – Hashem.
The Upheavel
Although the Golden Calf remains an ignominious blemish on our resume, nonetheless, the debacle of the spies certainly left an indelible historical blotch. We were poised to enter into the Land of Israel and it is clear from the Midrashim that we would not have even needed weaponry to dispatch the enemy from the land.
How many is that?
Teacher: “If I gave you 2 cats and another 2 cats and another 2, how many would you have?”
Johnny: “Seven.”
Teacher: “No, listen carefully… If I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?”
