Shabbos connects us with Hashem as we focus on the creation of the universe from a total nothing to what it is now, full of galaxies, super novas, our solar system, the incredible resources that we have available to us on this planet and the myriad types of creatures that populate the world. We are the recipients of wonderful gifts that abound all around us.
Sharing Our Stories Through Food: Chicken Soup
My husband teases me that I casually mentioned to him once while we were dating, “Oh, by the way. I
don’t know how to cook.” Being that my mother-in-law is a fantastic cook, he simply responded, “Oh.”
and politely tried to disguise his concern.
The Best Offense Is A Good Defense
To state that we are living in precarious times would be the understatement of the century. The events that occur on a daily basis are obscure and although we place our trust in Hashem that His plan is only for our good, we shudder often at what we are viewing. Political unrest, governmental breakdown at the highest levels, a total lack of respect for the truth, corruption amongst our investigative organizations and the list continues to grow.
Painting the office
One day, a man walks into his office downtown and finds the walls are being painted. As he stops to look at the painting being done on his office, he notes that the handyman doing the painting is wearing two very heavy parkas on a hot summer day.

This Mourning Period
We are now in the period called the 3 weeks, and it is considered a period of mourning. I have often wondered how we really mourn for something that we really do not understand. Historically the temple was destroyed and we were exiled, but those are not things I REALLY understand because I have never experienced a time with a temple or a world that recognizes G-d and Eretz Yisroel
Clearing The Way
Moshe commanded Pinchas to wage battle against Midian to revenge Hashem’s honor. The Midianite women caused many of the men to sin and therefore avenging their act of criminality was uppermost in the mind of Moshe. Pinchas who initially acted against them when he killed Zimri who had taken the Midianite princess, was tasked with this sacred mission.
A truck full of penguins
One day, a man was driving down the road when a policeman stopped him. The officer looked in the back of the man’s truck and said, “Why are these penguins in your truck?”
The man replied, “These are my penguins. They belong to me.”

Life Is A Journey
Life is a journey. In this week’s double Torah portion which concludes the Book of Bamidbar and takes place in the 40th year of the Jewish people’s “wandering” in the desert, we’re going to hear an accounting from Moshe of the 42 different encampments that the Jewish people had during that time. Interestingly, this is one of my “favorite” sections of the Torah even though to some it might sound like a very tedious list of different places.
The Aftermath
Moshe did not merit to enter into the Land of Israel due to his error in striking the stone instead of learning Torah by it which would have created a stream of water flowing from within it. Ahron also was prohibited from entering on account of the same incident. However, Ahron did have the pleasure of witnessing the transmission to the next generation of his honorable position as the High Priest.
