With Rosh Hashanah rapidly approaching, we’re on the hunt for more fun craft ideas that the whole family will enjoy. This one is very easy, and would be a great centerpiece for your table, and even travels well if you’re visiting friends.
Thanks to Kveller.com for this wonderful idea!
What you need:

- Apples, small for slicing
- Apple, a big one for the bowl (get a couple extra for practice!)
- Lemon juice or quartered lemon
- Cutting board
- Apple slicer/corer with two handles
- Serving plate
- Paring knife (adults only)
- Melon scoop/baller (or grapefruit spoon or apple corer)
- Bowl for soaking apples slices in lemon water (optional)
- Honey
How to make it:
- First, you’ll want to slice up the apples you’re going to be dipping. Using the two-handled apple slicer is an easy method, or you can supervise any method to slice up the apple you prefer.
- To keep your apples from turning brown while you’re working on the bowl, mix up a lemon water solution – one-part lemon juice to three-parts water. make sure you have enough to fully submerge your apple slices while you work.
- Next, pretend your big apple is a pumpkin and gut it the same way. Slice the top off with your pairing knife (parents, this is the step you’ll want to do) and scoop the insides out with a melon baller. Do your best not to poke holes in the side or bottom of the apple.
- Have your kiddos help finish the bowl by wiping the inside fully with a lemon wedge so it won’t turn brown.
- Then pour the honey into your newly created apple bowl and place it in the middle of a pretty serving dish. Drain and arrange your apple slices around the bowl.
- Dip and enjoy!
